Meet Antonio Harmon, the Director of Philanthropy at Front Steps, whose journey is as diverse and inspiring as the mission he champions.
Antonio’s narrative began in Rapid City, South Dakota, before settling in San Antonio at the age of 5. A former oilfield worker, Antonio found his true calling in 2020 amid the challenges of the COVID shutdown. His journey into the world of nonprofits commenced with the establishment of an organization in San Antonio, driven by a deep-seated desire to serve his community.
However, Antonio felt an unfulfilled calling, a sense that there was more to be done. This realization prompted his relocation to Austin, where he discovered Front Steps in 2021. Starting as a client intake specialist, he worked closely with individuals at the city Pro Lodges and the ARCH in downtown Austin, gaining invaluable insights into the causes and effects of homelessness.
Hired by Sheila Joseph, Director of Finance, in the Accounting Department, she noticed his natural ability to connect with people. She took note of his his compassion for the unserved which led to her selecting him to lead in a pivotal role as the Director of Philanthropy for Front Steps.
In this capacity, Antonio played a crucial part in steering Front Steps into a new and more vital phase. He spearheaded the creation of the organization’s new brand and website, reflecting its evolving mission and commitment to creating pathways home.
What sets Antonio apart is not just his professional journey but his personal connection to the cause. Having experienced homelessness as a teenager, he understands the common struggles of shelter instability and the anxiety that pervades in a society of constant hustle and bustle. This personal connection fuels his inspiration and unwavering focus on Front Steps’ mission.
When it comes to building meaningful relationships with donors and supporters, Antonio emphasizes transparency, solution-focused communication, and a laser focus on Front Steps’ mission. Connecting genuinely with the community is at the core of his approach.
For those looking to contribute to Front Steps’ philanthropic efforts, Antonio’s advice is simple:
“Just get involved and ask questions.”
He invites community members to reach out, volunteer, spread awareness, and make a tangible impact.
As the year draws to a close, Antonio encourages individuals to consider making a donation, emphasizing that every dollar, regardless of size, plays a crucial role in Front Steps’ mission to abolish homelessness in Austin.
“Come as you are,” he says. “Front Steps is a safe place to serve, and it truly only takes one person to make a difference. Reach out to us and get started.”
Antonio Harmon stands as a testament to the transformative power of compassion, personal connection, and the unwavering commitment to creating a community where everyone has a place to call home.
