Meet Justin Dunaj, a dedicated Permanent Supportive Housing Case Manager at Front Steps, bringing compassion and resilience to the forefront of his work. With a degree in Psychology from Arizona State University, specializing in Behavioral and Abnormal Psychology, Justin embarked on a career path fueled by a genuine curiosity about human behavior and the workings of the human mind.
Justin’s journey to Front Steps began with a desire to return to the realm of housing after an impactful but demanding role as a Child Protective Services Investigator. Having previously devoted seven years to housing-related work, Justin sought an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness.
As a Permanent Supportive Housing Case Manager, Justin finds profound fulfillment in building connections with his clients. “The main thing I enjoy the most is being able to create and build a relationship with my clientele,” he shares.
“I enjoy conversing and learning their histories and what experiences they have had in their lives, which have led them to where they are today.”
For Justin, the joy lies in facilitating simple comforts for individuals who may have been overlooked by society. “It makes me feel incredibly good to be able to assist and help all individuals, no matter who you are or where you are from, to be able to enjoy simple comforts of life, that some of us may take for granted.”
In his approach to success in Permanent Supportive Housing, Justin emphasizes authenticity and respect. “My approach for success is just being myself, treating all clients with respect, taking the time to learn who they are, and listening and supporting their wants or needs to reach any goals they set for themselves or I set with them.”
Navigating challenges with patience is a key aspect of Justin’s role. “One of the biggest challenges I have as a case manager is working with an individual who initially states they want the assistance but, in the long run, it turns out that they really don’t want the assistance, but I try anyway. Patience is a must-have.”
Justin finds inspiration and strength in the collaborative and supportive environment at Front Steps. “Working at Front Steps with my team and other staff members has been an amazing experience that I wholeheartedly enjoy.”
Recognizing the dynamic nature of his field, Justin stays abreast of the latest developments through continuous training on behavior and statistics. This ensures a better understanding of the evolving needs of Front Steps’ clientele.
For aspiring case managers, Justin shares valuable advice: “Don’t ever give up! Even meeting a simple goal is still a success, and with the number of case managers around the world, eventually, we can save everyone together.”
In closing, Justin extends his gratitude to the Front Steps community, donors, and fellow case managers.
“Thank you so much to our Front Steps Community, our Donors, and to the case managers out in the field tirelessly working every day with individuals in need. With their assistance, these jobs are able to exist, and millions of people around the world are able to get the resources and support they need to succeed in life.”
A heartfelt thank you to Justin Dunaj and all those working tirelessly to create pathways home for individuals experiencing homelessness. Your dedication and compassion make a lasting impact on the lives you touch. 🌟💙 #FrontStepsHeroes #CaseManagerSpotlight #PathwaysHome
