A Vibrant Evening with a Purpose

This past Sunday, Front Steps hosted its first annual Elevation Gala, an inspiring evening dedicated to raising awareness and support for our mission to eradicate homelessness in Austin. Held at The Austin Club, the gala embraced a vibrant New Orleans Mardi Gras theme and welcomed guests to a night filled with heart, entertainment, and community spirit.

Honoring Veterans and Announcing New Beginnings

The evening began with a lively cocktail hour on the club’s first floor, setting a festive atmosphere and allowing attendees to mingle. The gala’s host, Brian Bonnett, then officially opened the event by inviting the John Connally High School Color Guard to perform a tribute honoring our veterans. It was a touching moment that underscored the significance of our mission and highlighted the resilience of those we serve.

Following the tribute, Front Steps’ Executive Director, Sheila Joseph, took the stage to share exciting news: the launch of our new transitional housing community. This community will provide essential stable housing and supportive services for Austin’s unhoused neighbors, helping them transition to a more stable and independent life. Sheila’s announcement was met with applause and support, energizing attendees for the evening ahead.

A Night of Lively Music and Inspiring Words

Next, guests were treated to the unmistakable sounds of New Orleans as “The Hustlers” Brass Band brought lively music to the three-course dinner. The room buzzed with energy as guests enjoyed the entertainment, feeling connected to the night’s theme and the impactful work of Front Steps.

Later, the gala welcomed motivational speaker Ahmard Vital, whose powerful message resonated deeply with attendees. His words reminded us of life’s challenges and the empathy needed to support those experiencing homelessness. “We all need help sometimes,” he shared, “and our unhoused neighbors need us more than ever.” It was a heartfelt call to action that reminded everyone why they were there.

Generosity and Celebration on the Dance Floor

The evening continued with a spirited live auction led by Andrew Bost, who encouraged attendees to bid on unique items and once-in-a-lifetime experiences—all in support of Front Steps’ mission. Attendees showed incredible generosity, moved by the evening’s message and the transformative work Front Steps is committed to achieving.

To close the night, “The Hustlers” took to the floor once more, inviting attendees to join in a joyful second-line dance—a true Mardi Gras tradition. The energy was infectious, with everyone celebrating, dancing, and sharing in a moment of collective joy and solidarity.

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future for Front Steps

Front Steps extends its gratitude to everyone who attended, donated, and showed their commitment to making a difference. This year’s Elevation Gala set a powerful precedent for future events, demonstrating the community’s dedication to tackling homelessness together. With initiatives like our new transitional housing community, we’re confident that we can make lasting change.
