Light at the End of the Tunnel – Mr. Howard’s Journey

By February 3, 2025No Comments

Front Steps is excited to share our new neighbor, Mr. Howard’s, story! Mr. Howard is originally from Louisiana he loves going out for jogs, reading, and spending time with his daughter.

A Fresh Start

Mr. Howard moved to Texas in search of new opportunities and a fresh start. Adjusting to a new environment came with its challenges, but he remained hopeful. He was determined to build a stable future for himself and his family. His journey took a difficult turn when his car was stolen, making it nearly impossible for him to get to work. “I ran into some transportation issues,” he recalls. “I was just on my last resort before Front Steps came and stepped in.”

Despite this major obstacle, Mr. Howard remained focused on finding a solution. “At the end of the day, I have to do what I can to provide for my daughter,” he shares. With that determination, he sought out resources that could help him regain stability.

Finding Front Steps

Through the Veteran’s Association Mr. Howard was connected with Front Steps. “I reached out to the Veterans Association, and within 72 hours, they provided me with a hotel stay. Then they put me in contact with Ms. Trina (a housing case manager at Front Steps), and she’s been with me every step of the way.”

From the very first interaction, he felt reassured. “They told me they were going to do everything they could to help me, and that allowed me to focus my energy on other things.”

One moment stood out to him in particular. “The sense of urgency they came through with—it was amazing.”

Now, with stable housing, Mr. Howard is able to shift his focus towards rebuilding his career. “It feels really good,” he says. “Now that I have this out of the way, I can focus on getting re-established.” With his certifications in progress, he is excited to transition into an administrative role in his field, a step that wouldn’t have been possible without secure housing.

Words of Encouragement

For those who may be experiencing similar hardships, Mr. Howard has a message: “You just gotta keep faith and focus on being resourceful.”

His journey serves as a reminder that help is available, and that perseverance, along with community support, can lead to a brighter future.
