Today, we are proud to introduce and share the story of our new neighbor. Mr. Bazan is a veteran who, with the support of our community, found his way back to stability and a place to call home.
The Art of Courage
Mr. Bazan’s journey to Front Steps began during a difficult chapter of his life. After serving in the Army for 12 years, he faced the challenges of transitioning back to civilian life. Unable to find a new job, he found himself without a home. For Mr. Bazan, taking the first step to seek support wasn’t easy.
Seeking shelter from the rain became the turning point in his journey. Mr. Bazan shares that his buddy had told him about Front Steps, but he never tried to learn more. One day, Mr. Bazan was walking by our Front Steps office when it started to rain. That was the moment he decided to ask for help. Some may see it as a coincidence, others fate; we like to call it courage.
“Getting the initial motivation to do it was probably the biggest challenge,” he shared. “But once I walked through those doors, the staff made me feel very comfortable. I’m so glad I made that choice.”
Front Steps’ welcoming environment and comprehensive support system helped him take the steps necessary to rebuild his life.
Building Stability
The journey had its difficulties, but Mr. Bazan credits the unwavering support of Front Steps for making the process feel achievable.
“They walked me through the whole process,” he said. “Everybody was cheerful, helpful, and hospitable. They made it really easy, and I’m grateful for that.”
Now, Mr. Bazan has a home to call his own, a milestone he once thought impossible. He recently celebrated his birthday in his new apartment—a fitting symbol of new beginnings and a bright future.
Mr. Bazan’s Message
Having overcome significant challenges, Mr. Bazan encourages others facing similar struggles to seek help without hesitation.
“Just do it; it’s worth it,” he said. “The process might seem scary, but they guide you every step of the way. I’m glad I set my pride aside and asked for help.”
Mr. Bazan’s goals include achieving financial stability and maintaining a sense of security that comes with having a home. He also emphasizes the importance of supporting programs like Front Steps.
“This is a great program in every way,” he shared. “The team is incredibly welcoming, and I’m thankful for everything they’ve done for me.”
