Staff Highlight: Edin Kulosman

We’re excited to introduce Edin, Front Steps’ new Director of Programs and Services. With a passion for serving others and leading with empathy, Edin is already bringing heart to our mission. Read below to learn more about his passion for service and what inspires his work.

Interview Q&A:

  1. What inspired you to join Front Steps? “I am inspired to join Front Steps because of its dedication to helping individuals overcome homelessness and rebuild their lives with dignity. I have always been passionate about serving vulnerable populations, and I value the organization’s holistic approach to support and stability.”

 

2. What are you most excited about in your new role as Director of Programs and Services? “What excites me most about my new role is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by strengthening programs that help individuals achieve stability and independence. I’m also looking forward to working with a dedicated team to improve outcomes and expand our impact in the Austin community.”

3. What drew you to work in nonprofit and community services? “I was drawn to nonprofit and community services because of my passion for helping others and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. I value the opportunity to serve individuals in need, support their growth, and contribute to stronger, healthier communities.”

 

  1. What is a value that guides your leadership style? “I believe in leading with empathy, understanding individual needs, and supporting both staff and clients with respect and dignity while working toward meaningful outcomes.”

 

  1. What message would you like to share with the Front Steps community? “I encourage everyone in the Front Steps community to stay engaged and continue working together to make a positive impact. Your dedication, collaboration, and commitment are what drive meaningful change, and together we can strengthen our mission and better support those we serve.”

 

  1. What inspired your passion for helping others? “My passion for helping others comes from a desire to make a positive impact and support individuals during challenging times. Seeing the difference that compassion and support can make in someone’s life continues to motivate and inspire me every day.”

 

  1. What is something you hope people better understand about our unhoused neighbors? “I hope people better understand that our unhoused neighbors are individuals with unique stories, strengths, and challenges. Many are facing complex situations, and with the right support and opportunities, they can regain stability and thrive. Compassion, understanding, and respect can make a meaningful difference in anyone’s journey.”

 

  1. What motivates you to continue doing this work every day? “What motivates me every day is knowing that our work truly makes a difference in people’s lives. Seeing individuals take steps toward stability and knowing that our support plays a role in their progress inspires me to keep doing this work with dedication and purpose”

 

  1. What is one thing you love about serving the Austin community? “One thing I love about serving the Austin community is its strong sense of compassion and collaboration. There’s a shared commitment to supporting one another, and it’s inspiring to be part of a community that values making a real difference in people’s lives.”

 

  1. What is one fun fact your coworkers may not know about you? “One fun fact my coworkers may not know about me is that I come from a diverse cultural background, which has given me a unique perspective and appreciation for different people and experiences. Outside of work, I also enjoy fly fishing and spending time in nature—it’s a great way for me to relax and recharge.”
