Staff Spotlight: Meet Kaylan – Front Steps Housing Case Manager

By May 15, 2025No Comments

At Front Steps, our team is the heart of everything we do—and Kaylan, one of our dedicated Housing Case Managers, brings that heart to life every day.

Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Kaylan joined Front Steps in early 2024 after moving to Austin. With a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Faulkner University and a pursuit of her Master’s in Social Work, Kaylan brings both professional experience and a deep personal commitment to her role. Her background includes working with individuals facing mental health challenges and survivors of domestic violence—experiences that have shaped her trauma-informed, compassionate approach to case management.

Today, Kaylan works closely with veteran families experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Austin. Her passion for advocacy and helping others drives her work every day.

“I’ve always been drawn to helping people through difficult times,” she shared. “Being able to connect someone to the resources they need and advocate for them when things feel overwhelming—that’s what excites me about this role.”

But the work isn’t without its challenges. Kaylan reflected on one of the toughest lessons she’s learned: patience.

“Sometimes I want progress more than the client does. I’ve had to learn to meet people where they are and let them set the pace. That’s a critical part of building trust.”

One story that stands out for Kaylan involves a client struggling with confidence. Over time, through consistent support and encouragement, that individual was able to secure a job and take steps toward long-term stability.

“Now they’re thriving,” Kaylan said with a smile. “Seeing that transformation is why I do this work.”

For Kaylan, the most resonant part of the Front Steps mission is the belief that everyone deserves the dignity of a safe place to call home. She sees her work as a direct contribution to that vision—supporting clients in moving from crisis to stability through individualized care, resource navigation, and advocacy.

Outside of work, Kaylan loves spending time with her children, shopping for unique finds, and taking time to recharge. While she identifies as an introvert, her natural ability to connect meaningfully with others speaks volumes about her character and commitment.

Looking ahead, she’s excited to continue growing in areas like trauma-informed care, affordable housing resources, and community outreach—skills that will not only benefit her clients but enhance Front Steps’ impact across Austin.

Her message to the community?

“No one should ever feel alone in their struggles. There are people who care and want to see you succeed. Don’t be afraid to reach out.”

Kaylan is more than a case manager—she’s a guide, a listener, and a steadfast supporter for the people she serves. We’re proud to have her on the Front Steps team, and even prouder of the difference she makes each day in the lives of Austin’s unhoused community.
